Our Programs
Malaika Foundation implements its programs directly to ensure desired outcomes are achieved
Computer and Learning Centres
The organization sets up computer and learning centres for underprivileged youth and adults to foster technological advancement in targeted communities. The centres also serve as a hangout for the youth who need a place to study or do their home work. Youth and adults get basic computer literacy training at these centres, equiped with computer systems, a scanner, a printer, some books and a writing board. The centres also organize Adult Numeracy and Functional Literacy training programs intermitently, and occasionally show educational films dealing with hygiene, desease prevention, etc.
Such facilities and programs not only give the youth much needed computer training for their future, but benefit many adults as well.
** Provision for Teaching and Learning Materials
Malaika Foundation supplies learning materials such as computers, overhead projectors, etc., to schools in Ghana. We also supply students with computers, books, stationary supplies, calculators, and other learning materials.
Some children simply drop out of school due to lack of supplies such as exercise books, pens/pencils, etc. Some parents are so poor that buying school supplies mean going without food, so this program is very helpful to the beneficiaries.
Vocational and Entrepreneurial Skills Development
This program comprises of small business management training and vocational training for women. It is usually coupled with our micro-credit and micro-financing programs as a package for the paticipants.
Small Business Management Training for women
As part of the Vocational and Entrepreneurial Skills Development program, this training program is designed for women who are struggling with their small businesses and those wanting to start their own. After completing the training, the candidates get access to our Micro-Credit and Microfinancing program.
Due to lack of management and business skills many of the small business owners have difficulty staying in business or being successful. Armed with some training and an interest-free micro loan, these beneficiaries are more likely to be successful in their business endeavors.
Vocational Training
This training is part of the Vocational and Entrepreneurial Skills Development program and is also geared towards under-privileged women. The skills include Catering, Hairdressing, Sewing, Soap Making, Flower Arranging, and Tie & Dye fabric design. Graduates of this program may also benefit from our micro-loans or micro-financing programs.
Micro-credit and Micro-financing
These programs are usually coupled with our Vocational and Entrepreneurial Skills Development program. The graduates are either given a micro-loan or have their new business financed through our Micro-Financing program depending on their situation.
The combination of the Vocational and Entrepreneural Skills Development training and start-up funds is invaluable to these under-privileged women as it is virtually impossible for most of them to ever achieve this on their own
Currently Malaika Foundation is in the process of developing our Micro-credit Program to the state where you, the donor, will be able to directly lend to an entrepreneur or sponsor a small start-up business. The great thing about the Micro-lending Program is once it is paid up the money can be loaned again. It just keeps on giving and giving.
